ContentKeeper App Defender Wins 2020 Award of Excellence from Tech & Learning

ContentKeeper is pleased to announce that its App Defender solution has been recognized with a prestigious Award of Excellence from Tech & Learning magazine.

The awards honor edtech products that are improving the way educators work and students learn. A panel of judges who are experts in the edtech industry evaluated a number of products in each category and chose “stand-out products that are helping schools navigate [key] challenges by solving problems and driving innovation,” according to Tech & Learning.

ContentKeeper App Defender was one of a handful of winners in the Enterprise category of the 2020 Awards of Excellence.

App Defender extends the effectiveness of ContentKeeper’s industry-leading school web filter. It can identify and block rogue applications, such as BitTorrent, Hide My Ass, Psiphon or Ultrasurf, that students routinely use to circumvent their school’s web filter or firewall and anonymously access the web.

This creates a host of problems for schools. For instance, students can access gaming sites during school hours when they should be focused on learning. A more dangerous implication is that students can access the Dark Web without anyone knowing it, opening the door to all kinds of illegal activity and putting themselves — and others — at risk.

App Defender solves this problem. It recognizes the unique signatures of more than 80 suspicious applications, with more being added all the time — and it prevents students from using these rogue apps.
